Service: Washington Parish, post-Isaac

If you poor yourself out for the poor and satisfy the desires of the afflicted, then your light shall rise out of the darkness.
Isaiah 58:10

Beautiful day today serving the people of Washington Parish.

More and more we learn that suffering equal Love, the Crucifix says it all.

October Baby

Last night we went to see October Baby with a couple youth. It was an unbelievable movie touching at the core of not only the Life Issue, but forgiveness as well. None of us left dry eyed. Take your family now to go and see this movie.

"Content of THEIR Character"

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
– Martin Luther King, I Have a Dream Quote

Heritage Manor Nursing Home
Martin Luther King dreamed that one day  our children
would be
judged by"the content of their character."  Often, though, we don't challenge our young people to develop and display that character. Our young people LOVE to do something that matters, that develops their character. I pray that God gives us the strength to challenge and push our young people every day. Thank you to the young people who woke up early on Monday and proved that indeed they want to be judged by nothing less than the "content of their character."  May we all seek to follow in their footsteps.

Children's Hospital 2011

Michael and Paige
Justin, Ben and
We had a great time at the Annual Children's Hospital Christmas Party yesterday! We were elves  for Santa and got to interact with a lot of children who deal with life-long diseases like cystic fibrosis, endocrine disorders, birth defects, etc.. We don't have many pictures of the children here because of privacy, but we were truly graced with some absolutely beautiful faces. I asked the youth at the beginning of Advent, if Jesus were truly to come on Christmas Day, would he be happy with the world that we have created. We all knew that he wouldn't. But, I think TRULY we have worked to make our world better. May our hearts be open to receive him in 5 days. I know I will rest and wait, I invite you to do the same. Blessings.

Caroling: Linus and Luke

I am not going to lie. Today was a pretty day, the Saints were playing, and I needed rest, so when it was time to leave home and go to the Youth House for caroling, my heart wasn't totally in it. BUT, because our God is a God of a love greater than we know possible, my heart was changed.

Mr. Chip said it best. You know that scene in Charlie Brown's Christmas when Linus quotes from the Gospel of Luke:

And with those words, it all changes. We walked into one woman's home this afternoon and you could see the loneliness on her face. As we sang and prayed with her she cried and cried and I thought to myself, "Who says Jesus is not born again on Christmas Day?" In this moment we bring Christ, a baby of hope and love to a woman who needed to feel the loving embrace of our savior!

St. Theresa of Avila said, "Christ has no hands and no feet in this world but ours." Indeed, tonight, we were those hand and feet. Thank you to all the youth who joined us tonight. How bless are we to have such great love and joy that it is enough to spill over into the hearts of our community. Great is our God.

Caroling to Shut-In

I'm not going to lie. Today was a pretty day, the Saints were playing, and I needed rest. So, when I left home to go to the Youth House for caroling, my heart wasn't totally in it. But, because our God is a God of a love greater than we know possible, he opened my heart tonight.

Service Opportunities!

We have 2 upcoming service opportunities!

1. Caroling for the shut in: On Sunday Night, we will meet at the church at 4:00. We will practice a couple songs, get some hot chocolate and head over to 4 homes of Holy Ghost Parishioners who are homebound. We will bring them a basket of goodies and sing for them. Please join us!

2. Children's Hospital: Every year we join Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge and assist in making the dreams of more than 100 sick children come true. We will meet at Holy Ghost at 8:00, travel to Baton Rouge, and then return at about 3:00. This is truly an inspirational and rewarding experience. Please let us know ASAP if you are coming.

Patiently waiting for the coming of the Baby Jesus,

Stephanie and Erica
